Exhibitions of the Ussuriysk Museum

The museum's exhibitions tell the history of Ussuriysk and the Ussuriysk urban district from ancient times to the end of the 20th century. The section “Ussuri Antiquities. The Archaeological Heritage of the District” features artifacts from the ancient and medieval history of the area, including items related to states such as Bohai (7th–10th centuries) and the Jin Empire (11th–13th centuries), whose towns and monuments are located within Ussuriysk and the surrounding district. In the hall dedicated to the founding of Ussuriysk, visitors can learn about the lives and everyday routines of the people who settled Primorsky Krai after it became part of the Russian Empire, and learn about the historical vicissitudes of the transformation of the village of Nikolskoye into the town of Ussuriysk. The display includes peasant and merchant household items from the second half of the 19th century, photographs of the city from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and a collection of paintings by V. G. Sheshunov—the first professional artist of Primorsky Krai. The exhibition in the hall devoted to Ussuriysk's 20th-century history describes the participation of Ussuriysk residents in the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War (World War II), life in the city and district during those difficult periods, and the contribution of Ussuriysk residents to achieving the Great Victory in 1945. Each year, thematic exhibitions are organized in the museum's two exhibition halls, created both from the museum's own collections and in collaboration with local collectors, other museums, scientific and cultural institutions, and organizations of the district and Primorsky Krai.
