Exhibits of the Third Cavalry Corps
About exhibition
The Third Cavalry Corps is one of the smaller structures of the palace complex, built in 1776–1779 to a design by the architect Vasily Bazhenov. In the second half of the 19th century the corps was converted into a dacha, and until 1918 the large family of prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist Ivan Davidov spent their summers here. In the 19th century Tsaritsyno was a very popular dacha destination. Among the Tsaritsyno summer residents and their guests were many notable and distinguished people. The dacha of the inventor Dmitry Ezuchyevsky was located here (Anton Chekhov planned to buy the house in 1904). The dacha of Sergey Muromtsev, chairman of the First State Duma, occupied as many as six plots. His niece, Vera Muromtseva, later became the wife of Ivan Bunin; they met here in Tsaritsyno. Philosopher Vladimir Solovyov, poets Fyodor Tyutchev and Alexey Pleshcheyev, writers Leonid Andreyev and Andrey Bely, composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, singer Leonid Sobinov, painters Konstantin Korovin, Stanislav Zhukovsky and others visited Tsaritsyno. The 'Dacha Tsaritsyno' exhibition was prepared by the museum-reserve for more than ten years. Museum researchers searched for descendants of the Tsaritsyno dacha owners and negotiated the transfer to the museum of documentary materials — negatives, photographic prints, diaries, and household items. The 'Dacha Tsaritsyno' exhibition features 320 unique exhibits complemented by over 200 photographs.
