Exhibitions of the Russian Ethnographic Museum
About exhibition
Visitors to the Russian Ethnographic Museum can, in just a few hours without leaving Saint Petersburg, take a journey across turn-of-the-19th-to-20th-century Russia, travel from the Baltic to Chukotka, and become acquainted with the history, traditions and customs of many peoples. The museum's halls present a whole gallery of costumes, including unique garments made from fish skin and nettle fiber, as well as rare sets of shamanic attributes from Siberia and the Far East, magnificent Central Asian carpets, ceremonial weapons and household items of the peoples of the Caucasus, and jewelry made from a wide range of materials. The museum's unique collections tell about everyday things familiar to everyone: how people worked and rested, how they furnished their homes, and how they dressed for daily life and for celebrations. The exhibitions are supplemented by numerous temporary displays drawn from the museum's collections.
