About exhibition

The Pavlovsk Palace and Park Ensemble "Pavlovsk" was created in the heyday of Russian Classicism at the end of the 18th — beginning of the 19th century by a whole host of renowned architects and decorators of the time: Charles Cameron, Vincenzo Brenna, Giacomo Quarenghi and Pietro Gonzaga. The palace halls display works of art acquired or commissioned by the owners of Pavlovsk, as well as gifts received from European monarchs during travels in 1781–1782. A vast collection of paintings, porcelain, bronze, furniture, carpets and sculpture is presented in the palace interiors. Among the masterpieces are works by P. Rubens, C. Van-Loo, I. Martos and G. Robert. The tastes of Pavel Petrovich and his wife Maria Feodorovna are reflected in the layout of the landscape park: picturesque natural scenes along the banks of the Slavyanka River, pastoral and classical pavilions create Pavlovsk's reputation as a romantic park. Poets, painters and composers came here seeking inspiration. Johann Strauss gave concerts here. For more than two centuries Pavlovsk, a great joint creation of human genius and nature, has given people an enchanting sense of harmony and inner balance. This masterpiece of world heritage is protected by UNESCO. Attention! Children under 16 receive a free entrance ticket at the ticket office upon presentation of an identity document.
