Pyatigorsk Museum Exhibitions
About exhibition
The 'Natural Features of the Region' exhibition presents antique relief maps and paleontological finds, including the skull and skeletal fragments of a southern elephant that inhabited the territory of the modern North Caucasus more than a million years ago. You will learn about a unique natural wonder — the mounded Hot Mountain and the hot mineral springs that formed it. The 'Ancient History of the Region' exhibition displays interesting and rare archaeological finds that confirm human settlement of the Kavminvody area and the North Caucasus since deep antiquity. The 'Origin and Development of the City of Pyatigorsk' exhibition features a model of the Konstantinogorsk fortress, a unique fortress musket and cannon, household items, ladies' outfits and furniture. The display tells of the founding of the settlement Goryachie Vody with its first reed-roofed houses and the gradual development of the city of Pyatigorsk. The 'Great Victory' exhibition shows the military and labor feats of Pyatigorsk residents and the contribution of the spa city, which became a hospital city, to the Victory. Unique wartime evidence is exhibited: photographs, documents, memorial complexes of heroes, weapons, military equipment and everyday items. The 'Culture and Life of the Peoples of the North Caucasus' exhibition presents the cultural and historical heritage of the region's peoples. Authentic national clothing and handmade household items are displayed, along with various examples of decorative and applied arts, antique Tula samovars, garmons, irons, wooden pitchforks, homespun clothing and embroidered ritual towels (rushnyky).
