Opera House Exhibitions
About exhibition
The Opera House at Tsaritsyno is perhaps the most ornate and "light" building in the palace complex of the Tsaritsyno museum-reserve. An 18th-century architectural monument, the Middle Palace (the name "Opera House" appeared in the 19th century) is one of the masterpieces of the Tsaritsyno architectural ensemble, built at the order of Catherine the Great between 1775 and 1796. The architect was Vasily Bazhenov. The palace was presumably intended for small official receptions, court ceremonies, as well as theatrical performances and court entertainments for Catherine II. Today the Opera House houses an exhibition of 18th-century sculpture masterpieces from the Ostankino Palace from the collection of N. P. Sheremetev.
