About exhibition
Originally the Novouzensk Local History Museum was established as a community museum, but since 1980 it has been a branch of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore. The museum's collections comprise about 8,000 items. The museum exhibition, consisting of eight themed halls, includes departments of archaeology and natural history. The natural science collection provides an overview of the natural features and of the animal and plant life of the steppe Trans-Volga region. The historical part of the exhibition introduces visitors to the area's ancient history and the medieval nomadic tribes that inhabited it. It describes the economy and everyday life of peasants in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the revolutionary past of the small historic town of Novouzensk, the Civil War, fellow countrymen — Heroes of the Soviet Union, participants of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, home front workers, and participants in contemporary local conflicts.
