Exhibitions of the A. V. Anokhin National Museum of the Altai Republic

About exhibition

The exhibitions of the National Museum of the Altai Republic cover the natural, ethnographic, historical and art-historical aspects of the region's development. The chronological range spans from several hundred thousand years ago to the present day. Here you can learn about the culture and history of the Mountain Altai and enjoy a rewarding visit. You will see mammoth and bison bones, tools, ornaments and vessels from permafrost burial mounds, and thousand-year-old deer stones. You will become acquainted with the runic script of the ancient Turks, shamanic artifacts and rare books from the 17th–20th centuries. Particular attention is drawn to the mummy of the "Ukok Princess," who lived in the Altai Mountains 2,500 years ago. The art galleries are notable for paintings by Grigory Ivanovich Choros-Gurkin, a pupil of the Imperial Academy of Arts, and other regional artists.
