Exhibitions of the Varlamovsky Corner museum complex
About exhibition
Visitors will see the restored Varlamovskaya (Varlaam) Tower, which is part of the fortifications of the Okolny Gorod of Pskov — a complex of defensive structures of the 16th-century Pskov fortress that includes remains of earlier fortifications. The High (Voskresenskaya) Tower is the southernmost point of the Varlamovsky Corner ensemble. It is a closed tower, that is, not passable. The tower has a cylindrical shape and a wood-shingled pyramidal roof with a watch turret. It is one of the tallest (seven storeys). The Varlamovskaya and the High towers form a complex called the 'Varlamovsky Corner'. They are connected by a combat (defensive) passage. The main exhibition of the Varlamovsky Corner is 'The Lion Against the Eagle', dedicated to one of the most important events in Pskov's military history — the siege of the city by the army of Swedish King Gustav II Adolf during the Time of Troubles. The exhibition presents a full-scale depiction of the siege of Pskov in figures and costumes, showing its heroic and tragic moments.
