Exhibitions of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve
About exhibition
The 'Homestead of a Kolomna Peasant' complex includes the house and separate outbuildings of a traditional peasant yard: a stable housing a horse, a henhouse with chickens, and a small granary ('izbushka', 'izbenka') for storing grain. Visitors to the Kolomna peasant's homestead can also view the exhibition 'The Beauty of Peasant Life'. The 'Blacksmith's Homestead' part of the exhibition includes the blacksmith's house, the blacksmith's son's house, a forge and a shed. On the homestead grounds a small working forge has been reconstructed for visitors to demonstrate its typical layout: a hearth built of stone or brick with an iron extraction hood, a double-horn anvil, vises and tools (several hand hammers, a sledgehammer, tongs with different jaws, chisels). Using these simple tools, modern skilled craftsmen create unique examples of blacksmithing before visitors' eyes, which anyone can purchase in the museum's souvenir shop.
