Exhibits of the A. M. Gorky Apartment Museum
About exhibition
The museum exhibition in the writer's house conveys "the atmosphere of a high spiritual mood." Here daily meetings took place with like-minded people; sometimes 30–40 visitors gathered in the living room. Correspondents and guests of Gorky during this period included L. Tolstoy, L. Andreyev, I. Bunin, A. Chekhov, E. Chirikov, I. Repin, K. Stanislavsky and other cultural figures. Among the many guests was his closest friend F. Chaliapin, who lived in this house and took part in the life of the family and the city. Here Gorky completed work on the play "The Lower Depths", enjoyed success after its productions in Russia and Europe, made sketches for the novel "Mother", wrote the poem "Man", and contemplated the play "Dachniki".
