Which Siberian city can you visit a real palace in? Only Tobolsk! In the distant 18th century, by order of Empress Catherine II, the Tobolsk Viceroyalty was established. In connection with this event the dilapidated Prikaznye Chambers were rebuilt into the three-story Palace of the Viceroy. Today the restored building houses the Museum of the History of Siberian Administration. Tobolsk was for many years the center of voivode and later gubernatorial government. Visiting the palace you can enter the voivode's chamber, learn about the occupations of members of the service class and about the activities of Siberian and Tobolsk governors. Get acquainted with the culture and everyday life of the Siberian Tatars, learn how the region lived before the arrival of Yermak's forces, and see exhibits from the Isker settlement—the capital of the Siberian Khanate, whose successor Tobolsk became at the end of the 16th century. No one will remain indifferent to the majestic Throne Hall, reconstructed from surviving descriptions. You can also visit the study of the great scientist D.I. Mendeleev, the Yershov parlor, and a gymnasium classroom.
