Exhibitions of the Museum of the Town of Gatchina
About exhibition
The museum's permanent exhibition, presented in five halls, is housed in the historic building of the former Gatchina Women's Gymnasium and tells about the life and everyday existence of townspeople in different periods: pre‑Petrine times, the late 18th century, throughout the 19th–early 20th centuries, during the years of occupation, the postwar period and the present day. The first section, represented by a collection of archaeological finds, describes the lives of the peoples who inhabited the territory of modern Gatchina. The second is devoted to the development of Gatchina as a town under Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich, later Emperor Paul I. The military hall contains a collection that tells about the town's life during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). In the Soviet hall you can see elements of apartment interiors from the 1950s and 1960s, Soviet posters and paraphernalia. In 2015 Gatchina was awarded the title of City of Military Glory; a separate hall is dedicated to this part of the town's history.
