Exhibitions of the Moscow Archaeology Museum
About exhibition
The Moscow Archaeology Museum, located in an underground pavilion seven meters below ground in the historic city center, directly on the site of large-scale archaeological excavations carried out in 1993-1996, provides an overview of the medieval capital and the history of the area now occupied by Manezhnaya Square, and includes general information on archaeological research methods. Opened in 1997, the museum presents the material culture of Moscow and the Moscow Region from the Paleolithic to the 19th century. The core of the exhibition consists of the foundations (abutments) of the Voskresensky (Resurrection) Bridge of the 17th-18th centuries, discovered during the excavations; the bridge formerly connected the two banks of the Neglinnaya River.
