The first collections, the first staff, the first exhibitions and displays — it all began in a memorial building that has preserved its original appearance and architectural individuality. The only museum in Western Siberia that was under the personal patronage of Emperor Nicholas II and served as a scientific and cultural center of Siberia. Today the displays tell the story of the development of museum work in Tobolsk and present its earliest collections: paleontological, archaeological, and ethnographic. The Provincial Museum is interesting not only for adults but also for children: in the basement you can discover the world of wild Siberian nature. In the inner courtyard, framed by firs and cedars, stands a rotunda. In warm weather ceremonial events are held here: birthdays, official receptions, and weddings.
