About exhibition

Tour of the permanent exhibition begins with the mammoth fauna section. Visitors will see the remains of Ice Age fossil animals: a mammoth, a woolly rhinoceros, a bison, a musk ox and an ancient horse. Beautiful dioramas and displays in the section on the modern nature of Yakutia will show visitors the remarkable landscapes found in the republic and the species of animals and birds that inhabit them. The archaeology and ethnography section presents archaeological finds ranging from the Paleolithic to the Iron Age. Of particular interest is a Neolithic monument — the Kangalass burial. Skeletal fragments, tools and household items belonged to a person who lived in the Tuymaada Valley about 2,900 years ago. The permanent exhibition also showcases the cultures of the small indigenous peoples — the Evens, Yukaghirs, Chukchi — and of the Sakha people: traditional occupations, ways of life, religious beliefs, customs, rituals and traditions. In the history department, visitors can learn about the history of Yakutia from the 17th to the 20th century.
