Exhibitions of the Alexander Shilov Gallery
About exhibition
The gallery's exhibition presents the multifaceted art of Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation, People's Artist of the USSR and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Shilov. Behind each portrait are the life stories of the people who became the subjects of the master's paintings. The history of Russia in faces from the last third of the 20th to the beginning of the 21st century is reflected in Alexander Shilov's work. These are images of contemporaries: portraits of World War II veterans, clergymen, beautiful female figures, prominent figures of culture and art, and ordinary workers. Lyrical landscapes and still lifes—as if suffused with a special trembling, tenderness and love—harmoniously fit into the artistic narrative about the homeland. Today the gallery's holdings number more than 1,870 works created over years of devoted labor by People's Artist of the USSR Alexander Shilov and donated free of charge to the state and to the city of Moscow.
