Exhibits of the Azov Museum-Reserve
About exhibition
The main exhibition is housed in an old two-story building that formerly served as the city administration. Twenty exhibition halls arranged in chronological order introduce the history of the Azov region from ancient times to the present. The ground floor displays skeletons of fossil animals: deinotherium, elasmotherium, the European bison (wisent) and mammoths, as well as fossils from various geological periods. The archaeology halls are devoted to the cultures of the peoples who lived on the Don during the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Separate sections of the exhibition tell the history of the Don Cossacks, the Russo-Turkish wars of the 17th–18th centuries, and Peter I’s Azov campaigns. Halls with a heroic-patriotic focus recount the history of Azov in the 19th–20th centuries. The museum exhibition is equipped with modern multimedia equipment.
