Exhibitions of the Yamalo-Nenets Museum and Exhibition Complex
About exhibition
Exhibitions about the Ice Age and mammoths, and about the ethnography and culture of the indigenous population are the calling cards of the I. S. Shemanovsky Museum and Exhibition Complex. Their modern design and incorporation of new technologies are impressive, and the rarest exhibits make the displays astonishing. Mammoth skeletons — the Mongochensky and Tadibe specimens, the legendary mammoth calf Lyuba, and hundreds of other rarities become accessible at the paleontological exhibition “Thawed World.” “Intersection of Three Worlds” reveals the three-part worldview of the indigenous peoples of the Lower Priobye. The upper and lower worlds are the abodes of gods, spirits, and mythical beings, and between them lies the middle material world where northern peoples live. The exhibition is equipped with augmented reality technology — visitors can learn about the cuisine of the Yamal peoples, observe revived images of spiritual culture, explore seasonal practices, and try on masks in a mobile application. The museum’s permanent exhibitions are located on the first floor.
