Exhibition of the Zoological Museum and the E. A. Eversmann Herbarium
About exhibition
Visiting the Zoological Museum and Herbarium of Kazan Federal University on a guided tour — one of the oldest and richest collections in the country — you will learn a lot about the lives of the planet's animals. You will be shown plaster models of foraminifera shells, the lacy skeletons of sponges, and display cases with sea anemones and madreporian corals. You will then hear about the biology and ecology of various worms (leeches, polychaetes, etc.), as well as flatworms — parasites of humans and animals. You will learn about the diversity of forms and lifestyles among echinoderms, mollusks and crustaceans, including pouch‑breathed parasitic crabs. In the entomology hall the focus is on insects — amazing creatures that astonish the imagination with their bizarre body shapes and the richness and brightness of their colors. In the next hall you will be introduced to the internal structure of different groups of vertebrates, their skulls and skeletons. The ichthyological section of the collection tells about fishes of the world fauna, their unusual body forms and other interesting facts about their lives. Visitors learn much that is new and informative about the lives of birds in the ornithology hall: they will see birds of paradise, South American tinamous, the trumpeter and the hoatzin, kiwi, Australian honeyeaters and many other unusual species. In the final part of the tour you can hear about various mammals — from primitive mammals to primates. The tour always includes information about a unique exhibit and the symbol of the museum — the extinct quagga zebra. Tours are conducted for groups of 6 to 20 people by prior arrangement by phone: +7 (960) 031-01-30.
