Colossal transformations have taken place in the “Australia and Islands” display. Now, instead of classic pedestals, there are picturesque landscapes where every detail — from an unassuming stone to a giant cactus — was handcrafted by the museum’s talented artisan, artist Lyudmila Viktorovna Litvinova. Before visitors’ eyes, the riot of Madagascar’s tropical greenery gives way to the fauna of New Zealand and the shores of the Galápagos, famous for their giant land tortoises. From there you travel straight to Australia to see animals that have become symbols of the continent — kangaroos and wombats, cassowaries and emus, the echidna and the platypus, the wild dingo and the giant kookaburra. True treasures await you in the wet forests of New Guinea: here live birds-of-paradise whose plumage shimmers in the light like gemstones. A special video presentation will help you appreciate the enormous amount of work carried out by museum staff to make the exhibits in the “Zoogeography” hall shine even brighter.
