Exhibition "Gold of the Sarmatian Chieftains"
About exhibition
The exhibition includes artifacts obtained from archaeological investigations of the famous Filippovsky kurgan burial site. At its core are items that were elite during the lifetimes of their owners — the nomadic Sarmatians of the Early Iron Age. The renovated halls also present nearly the entire set of objects recovered during the excavations of kurgan 1, burial 2, where the burial of a noble Sarmatian woman of high social status was found. The display features both items previously shown in the Golden Treasury and those that have returned to the museum after restoration and taken their place of honor. In the first hall a ritual cup with the heads of two rams, restored at the Hermitage, will be exhibited; in the second — the restored sleeves of a Sarmatian priestess. The restoration was carried out with the support of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (GMII) and the Ministry of Culture of the Orenburg Region.
