Exhibition 'Introduction to the Russian Country Estate'
About exhibition
Visitors to the manor can spend their time usefully by immersing themselves in the atmosphere of 19th-century estate life, taking a walk through the formal French garden, or strolling along the famous lime-tree avenue once walked by Pushkin himself, who called it the 'Russian Parnassus'. They can see the Ostafyevo estate, known as the 'Pearl of New Moscow'. Ostafyevo is a former Moscow-region estate of two prominent families, the Vyazemskys and the Sheremetevs, and it was a magnet for many well-known writers and poets. A. S. Pushkin visited Ostafyevo three times. V. A. Zhukovsky, K. N. Batyushkov, D. V. Davydov, A. Mickiewicz, and N. V. Gogol all visited this noble house with its classical interiors and well-tended park, where even now one can rest the soul, listen to birdsong, feed squirrels, and watch flocks of ducks glide across the pond. The interiors and room furnishings will delight you and transport you to the 19th-century atmosphere, when guests were received in the ceremonial entrance hall and then separated into the men's and women's halves of the manor house, meeting later in the large dining room or the magnificent oval hall, where lavish balls were held.
