Exhibition of the Hall of Dagestani Musical Culture
About exhibition
The exhibition dedicated to the musical culture of Dagestan presents the history of the formation and achievements of the republic's professional musical art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The display concentrates thematic items — photographs, posters, books and records, manuscripts, painted portraits, music editions and scores, as well as personal belongings of well-known figures of the republic's musical culture. The collection includes both folk and professional musical instruments. Among them is a Diederichs family piano from the early 20th century that belonged to the family of the exhibition's founder and head of the school, Murad Kazhlaev — an outstanding Dagestani composer, conductor, teacher, laureate of state and international awards, People's Artist of the USSR and Hero of Labour of Russia. Murad Kazhlaev's name belongs to the ranks of the outstanding personalities of Dagestani history, whose professional and public activities made a unique contribution to the development of the republic. His work became the highest achievement of the national musical art and, like the legacy of the great Rasul Gamzatov, for the first time revealed the spiritual world of Dagestan to many listeners across the country and abroad through music, gaining wide recognition and deserved acclaim.
