The Alatyr Local History Museum invites everyone to visit the Hall of Trade and Merchant History of Alatyr. In this hall, visitors will see interiors furnished with authentic antique commercial furniture: a bookshop with a unique collection of pre-revolutionary books from the city's first public library; a grocery store with preserved tin boxes for candies and cookies, chocolate packaging shaped like dominoes, porcelain toys that came inside chocolate bonbons, and much more; a pharmacy with various 19th-century bottles, flasks, test tubes and measuring cylinders; a pawnshop with a bank safe from the late 19th century. Visitors can learn about the Popov family, the famous merchants of Alatyr, and discover their philanthropy and patronage.
