Military-Historical Museum Exhibition
About exhibition
Moving through the halls of the Guardhouse, you can take a journey through the pages of the homeland's military history while also exploring the interiors of the historic monument built in 1823–1826. Until the beginning of the 20th century the building was used to house the main garrison guard and to detain arrested servicemen. Today the Guardhouse houses the military-historical exhibition of the Kostroma Museum-Reserve, which includes more than 1,000 exhibits. Exhibitions available: “Military History of the Kostroma Region from the 12th to the 21st Century” and “Weapons Collection.” A 12th-century steel sword, a 15th-century pishchal (early hand cannon), a 5-kilogram mail shirt and other items give an idea of how weaponry and uniforms looked in different eras up to the present day. Here you can learn about the military feats of Kostroma residents, see their combat awards, and read frontline letters in which personal stories form the shared chronicle of the Kostroma region and the country as a whole. Guided tours are provided by prior arrangement. Phone +7 (4942) 31-68-37, +7 (4942) 47-07-40.
