Exhibition in the Bilibin-Chistokletov estate in Kaluga
About exhibition
Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts is the largest art collection in the Kaluga region. It was opened on June 12, 1918, in the house of physician N. I. Vasiliev. A native of Kaluga, N. I. Vasiliev (1832-1917) bequeathed his art collection to his hometown. Works from his private collection formed the basis of the museum's holdings. In 1969 the museum was granted the main building of the town estate of the merchants Bilibin-Chistokletov, an outstanding early 19th-century architectural monument classified as a cultural heritage site of federal significance. Today it occupies almost the entire estate complex. The halls of the main building's permanent exhibition display about 250 works of art, including painting, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts by leading Russian and European masters of the 16th-20th centuries. The museum makes extensive use of digital technologies: touchscreen terminals offer game programs, video materials, and virtual exhibitions. Twelve paintings in the main exhibition have been 'brought to life' using VR technologies. Visitors also frequently use mobile guides on the Artefact and izi.travel platforms.
