When was the "golden age" of Kolomna's merchant class? How did wealthy merchants arrange their daily life? Who were the Lazhechnikov merchants and how is the first Russian novelist Ivan Ivanovich Lazhechnikov connected to them? The exhibition of the Lazhechnikov merchants' estate — an architectural monument of the 18th–19th centuries located in the historic part of Kolomna near the Kremlin — will help answer these and many other questions. This is the only museum in Russia dedicated to the writer I. I. Lazhechnikov; his childhood and youth were spent here. On display are authentic objects, documents and books from the 18th–19th centuries that tell about the milieu and family in which Lazhechnikov's talent was formed, and about the writer himself. The exhibition features the literary works that made him famous throughout Russia and drew the personal attention of A. S. Pushkin, Emperor Nicholas I, and the leading literati of the first half of the 19th century, as well as awards and editions published during his lifetime.
