Exhibition «Rukavishnikov Estate»
About exhibition
The main house of the Rukavishnikov Estate is a splendid example of academic eclecticism from the last quarter of the 19th century. The first floor is the business part of the house; here, in the owner's study, visitors can learn about the history of the famous merchant dynasty that left its mark not only on Nizhny Novgorod but on Russia as a whole. Passing through the enfilade of rooms on the second floor, one can immerse oneself in the atmosphere of the social life of that era: the Russian-style dining room gives way to a succession of parlors in the spirit of Baroque and Rococo and culminates in a luxurious double-height ballroom richly decorated with stucco, paintings, and patterned parquet. Today the rooms of the former merchant house host exhibitions from the collections of the Nizhny Novgorod Museum-Reserve. And in the ballroom, as a hundred years ago, live music fills the air again and well-dressed couples whirl — concerts and 19th-century dance workshops take place here. Self-guided visits (no guided tour services).
