The exhibition reveals the image of one of Verkhoturye’s most distinctive institutions — the prison stockade — a symbol of state authority on Russia’s eastern frontier. The prison in Verkhoturye in the 17th–18th centuries had all‑Siberian significance and was originally located within the kremlin. The exhibition recreates a prison stockade with cells and a torture chamber. The prisoners visitors encounter are modeled on descriptions from court cases. The display includes authentic artifacts: early 19th-century shackles, keys, a prison warden’s badge, a door from a prison cell, as well as photographs and documents. On a multimedia screen you can take an engaging journey through the 17th-century Verkhoturye kremlin.
