From the first people of the Stone Age, to the farmers and herders of the Bronze Age, the medieval state of Volga Bulgaria, the founding of the city of Stavropol, the Stavropol Kalmyks in the great wars of the 18th–19th centuries, and the life of the city before the 1917 Revolution — the visitor does not merely 'pass by' each stage of the region's development but is immersed in the era through interactive features. In the archaeology hall you can see a burial mound (kurgan) shown in cross-section and peer into a semi-subterranean dwelling of an ancient person. In the peasant life hall you'll find an authentic izba (peasant hut), and after visiting the veranda of the Lesnoye sanatorium you can go straight to visit the residents of Stavropol. The artists have recreated an elegant maiden's bedroom, an austere merchant's study, a cozy parlor and a dining room reflecting refined secular taste. All items are genuine, preserving the aura of bygone eras.
