Exhibition of antique machinery and tools
About exhibition
The museum's exhibition is a collection of unique items that reflect the history of technological progress and the inventiveness of Nizhny Novgorod craftsmen. The collection began with a caliper (vernier caliper) purchased 30 years ago by the founder of the Technical Museum, Vyacheslav Khurtin. Today the museum's exhibition features over 2,000 exhibits. The main selection criterion is uniqueness. Visitors will not find identical tools or machines; each mechanism is unique and has been restored to working condition. All the exhibits, which date from the 19th and 20th centuries, possess technical and historical value. Machines, tools, equipment, vehicles, documents — these are not just a picture of an era but unique testimonies of the past that cannot be bought and are not easily found. Visitors to the Technical Museum will peek into the very recent past before the electric devices and gadgets that now fill modern life. And this journey begins with the metal entrance door, which faithfully serves the museum and is itself an exhibit: 200 years ago this door protected the entrance to a merchant's house with shops at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair.
