Exhibition «The Battle of Maloyaroslavets»

About exhibition

On October 24, 1812, the small town of Maloyaroslavets became the scene of a fierce battle between Russian forces and Napoleon’s army over control of the road to Kaluga. After the bloody engagement the French emperor was forced to abandon his plan to break through to winter quarters via routes untouched by war and began a retreat along already devastated roads, which led to the destruction of his army. The lives of armies on campaign and in battle are reflected in household items, uniforms, equipment, and weaponry. Visitors can view authentic artillery barrels, muskets, edged weapons, ammunition, realistic mannequins, and unique surgical instruments. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by a cycle of works by the contemporary battle painter A. Averyanov (Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts). Closed on Mondays. The last Friday of every month is a cleaning day. Also check the museum website for holiday opening hours.
