Exhibition “Sergiev Posad in the 20th Century”
About exhibition
The exhibition presents everyday life in the town during the first half of the 20th century: its unhurried rhythm at the beginning of the century; the post-revolutionary changes that turned the town into an industrial centre; the contribution of its residents to the Great Victory; and the changes in culture and domestic life in the 1950s. Material witnesses of the era — original documents, photographs, paintings and lithographs, products of local artisans, furniture, household items, costumes and accessories that characterize each decade of this turbulent century — are displayed in period interior reconstructions. The building housing the Local History department, located in a small square, is a regional cultural heritage monument — it is the first kindergarten built to a standard design in 1937, a model that was later used for construction throughout the country.
