Exhibition 'Knight Hall'
About exhibition
The 'Knight Hall' exhibition is a permanent part of the museum and tells the history of the Teutonic Order and medieval Königsberg. The exhibition displays reconstructed knightly armor: chainmail, helmets, and shields. All of this was recreated using traditional techniques by skilled craftsmen. The medieval warriors' equipment exhibited in the hall fully performs its protective functions. Similar armor is used at historical reenactment festivals. In 'Knight Hall' you will learn which parts made up a complete suit of knightly armor, what types of helmets existed and how their construction changed, as well as what the misericorde (mercy dagger) was used for, and much more. In addition to the Teutonic Order knights' equipment, the exhibition includes armor that was used by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland, the standards of the Teutonic Order's commanderies, and men's and women's medieval costumes. The exhibition was created as part of the international project 'Museums without Borders', carried out by the Archaeological-Historical Museum in Elbląg and the 'Friedland Gate' museum in Kaliningrad.
