The exhibition, presented in historical sequence, showcases the evolution of Russian art from the mid-19th century to the present. Russian academic painting of the turn of the 19th–20th centuries is illustrated by works of remarkable landscape painters: I. Aivazovsky, L. Lagorio, M. Klodt, I. Shishkin, V. Polenov, K. Bogaevsky and others. They are united by academic mastery and a lofty tone that carries perception beyond the everyday. The Moscow school of painting is represented by works of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism in Russian art — from A. Arkhipov to the Cézannist artists, founders of the 'Jack of Diamonds' group — I. Mashkov, A. Kuprin and P. Konchalovsky.
