Exhibition 'Russia – Vyatka: Features of National History'

About exhibition

The historical exhibition is located on the first floor of the Main Building and consists of four halls: The 'Archaeology' Hall – the exhibition is based on archaeological collections from various eras and periods and illustrates the material culture of the ancient Finno‑Ugric population of the Vyatka River basin from the Stone Age (6th millennium BC) to the Middle Ages (9th–12th centuries). The 'City' Hall – the exhibition reflects the main stages of the history of the city of Vyatka (Khlynov), founded in 1374. A model of the Khlynov Kremlin, made by honorary citizen of Kirov, architect A. G. Tinsky (1920–2006), provides an impression of the city's appearance in the 16th–17th centuries and its fortifications. The 'Izba' Hall – here the interior of a northern Russian izba from the late 19th to early 20th century has been reconstructed. The reconstruction was carried out based on items brought from the village of Malaya Lesnaya in Luzsky District. The 'Ethnography' Hall presents the main peoples of the Vyatka region: Russians, Udmurts, Tatars, Maris, and Komis. Their culture and everyday life are shown through the most expressive national costumes, jewelry, headdresses, and handicrafts from the late 19th to early 20th centuries.
