Exhibition “Russia and the World in the 19th–20th Centuries”

About exhibition

The new permanent exhibition is devoted to the interconnection between Russian and world history in the 19th–20th centuries. It shows how global events — the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, World War I and World War II — affected the course of Russian history. In turn, landmark events in our country, such as the Revolution of 1917, perestroika and the collapse of the USSR, had a profound impact on world civilization. The world has always influenced Russia, and Russia has influenced the world, and this was most clearly manifested in the 19th and 20th centuries. Visitors will see unique objects related to the international events of the past two centuries. These include a rifle presented by General Eisenhower to Marshal Zhukov; a 1900 wind-up toy depicting a participant in the Boxer Rebellion in China, given to Nicholas II by his mother; fragments of an American aircraft shot down during the Vietnam War; and a banner of Spanish workers who participated in the Spanish Civil War. Also on display are the personal belongings of Soviet diplomats — People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs Maxim Litvinov and ambassadors Alexandra Kollontai and Dmitry Polyansky — as well as a collection of medals and commemorative badges related to the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, the reunification of Germany and other events.
