Exhibition 'Travel Notes of the First House'

The First House of Norilsk was built by N.N. Urvantsev's first geological exploration expedition in the summer of 1921. In this house the scientist-geologist, the discoverer of the Norilsk deposits and one of the city's founders, Nikolai Nikolaevich Urvantsev, spent the first winter. Today the museum presents an exhibition dedicated to the history of the first expeditions of adventurers and seekers of adventure; it tells of the love and travels of the Urvantsev couple, as well as of the journeys of the House itself. At its core is the 1923-1924 expedition, whose daily life is most fully documented in the memoirs of its participants held in the museum's collections and has been reconstructed as accurately as possible. The exhibition provides an opportunity to show how winterers lived in that distant time, to convey the romance of the North with its thrilling stories, to foster young people's interest in the history of their native city, to contribute to the patriotic upbringing of the younger generation, and to arouse interest in the history of Norilsk's development not only among local historians but also among the city's visitors.
