Exhibition "Journey Through the Museum"
About exhibition
Visitors will embark on a fascinating journey through the oldest museum of the North Caucasus. The Stavropol Museum-Reserve is located in the very heart of historic Stavropol, in the building of the former trading rows dating from 1873. In the spacious halls with arched windows, thematic exhibitions on history, archaeology, paleontology, mineralogy, natural history and ethnography present the region's story. The Nature Hall introduces the region's diverse flora, fauna and geology. In the Paleontology Hall you can see two skeletons of southern elephants and the world's only fossil rhinoceros. Archaeological monuments tell the millennia-long history of humans in the Caucasus, from the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages. Ethnographic collections and reconstructed interior dwellings recreate the culture and daily life of the peoples of the Caucasus from the late 18th to the mid-20th century. The local-history journey concludes with the hall of modern history, featuring exhibits from the early 20th century to the present.
