The County Town Museum will take you back a couple of centuries to the provincial county town of Valday. In an old 19th-century mansion the history of many Valday residents is carefully preserved, from peasants and craftsmen to merchants and dacha owners from the capital. Their faces look out at you from old family photographs, radiating that special energy and mood that filled people in their happiest and most important moments. The museum's exhibition is experienced like a kind of family album, and as you move from showcase to showcase, from room to room, you turn its pages, which keep all the most intimate and joyful events in Valday's life. Authentic objects, displayed not only behind glass cases but also in the open interiors of the period—with antique chests, furniture, and charming family baubles—fill the museum halls with warmth and coziness.
