Exhibition "Nature and Man"

About exhibition

The territory of the Chuvash Republic covers an area of 18.3 thousand sq. km. The seasons in the republic are clearly defined. Their changes are shown in the dioramas "Coniferous Forests of the Trans-Volga", "Mixed Forest", "Highland Oakwood" and "Lowland Bog". Each biotope features characteristic animals and plants: bear, wolf, wild boar, elk and others. The central diorama is "Red Book", which includes a map of Chuvashia's specially protected natural areas. The republic has two federally significant protected areas: the Prisursky State Nature Reserve and the Chavash Varmane National Park. The Red Books of the Russian Federation and the Chuvash Republic are displayed here, as well as endangered species of animals and plants: lynx, white-tailed eagle, snowy owl, lady's slipper, common juniper and the European globeflower. The exhibition also contains material about Bronislav Ilyich Guzovsky, the forester of the Ilyinskoye forestry and a Candidate of Forestry Sciences. He worked at the Ilyinskoye forestry for 24 years and carried out intensive reforestation of oakwoods. The oldest tree of the Chuvash oakwoods is located in the Ilyinskoye forestry. It is 475 years old; before being struck by lightning its height reached 26 m; diameter 180 cm; circumference 565 cm; volume about 34 cubic meters. In addition, steppe, riparian and marsh ecosystems are presented.
