Exhibition 'Nature and Man'

About exhibition

The territory of the Chuvash Republic covers an area of 18.3 thousand sq. km. It is part of the Russian Federation. The seasons in the republic are clearly defined. Their changes are shown in the dioramas 'Coniferous Forests of the Trans-Volga', 'Mixed Forest', 'Upland Oak Grove', 'Lowland Bog'. Each biotope displays characteristic animals and plants: bear, wolf, wild boar, elk and others. The central exhibit is the diorama 'Red Data Book'. It features a map of Chuvashia's specially protected natural areas. The republic includes two federally significant protected areas: the Prisursky State Nature Reserve and the Chavash Varmane National Park. The Red Data Books of the Russian Federation and the Chuvash Republic are presented here, as well as endangered species of animals and plants: lynx, white-tailed eagle, snowy owl, lady's-slipper orchid, common juniper, European globeflower. The exhibition also includes material about Bronislav Ilyich Guzovsky, forester of the Ilyinsky forestry and Candidate of Forestry Sciences. He worked at the Ilyinsky forestry for 24 years and was involved in intensive restoration of oak groves. The Ilyinsky forestry is home to the oldest oak of the Chuvash oak groves. It is 475 years old; its height before being struck by lightning reached 26 m, diameter 180 cm, circumference 565 cm, volume about 34 m³. In addition, steppe, riparian and marsh ecosystems are presented.
