Exhibition "Powder Magazine"
About exhibition
The former arsenal, built in the Bastion of Saint Anne, is a rectangular stone structure of red brick and shell-limestone blocks, with a shallow entrance vestibule and a semi-cylindrical vault that transitions into a gabled roof. Seventeen steps in the vestibule lead down to the storage room, which in times immemorial held about 60 tons of gunpowder. The central part of the powder magazine houses the diorama "The Storming of Azov Fortress on 18 July 1696" by the artist Arseny Chernyshov. The exhibition displays examples of melee weapons and firearms, items of military uniform, office and drafting supplies, plans of the other magazines of Azov Fortress, and an installation of racks with powder barrels. Turkish Azov was the first military trophy of the energetic tsar-reformer, for the capture of which he built the Russian fleet.
