Exhibition of the Intercession (Pokrovsky) Cathedral
About exhibition
The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat (St. Basil's Cathedral) is one of the most significant monuments of 16th-century Old Russian architecture. The cathedral was erected in 1555–1561 by order of Tsar Ivan the Terrible to commemorate the conquest of the Kazan Khanate. The Intercession Cathedral features unique wall paintings, an impressive collection of Old Russian iconography, and masterpieces of ecclesiastical applied arts. The ensemble of ten churches with complete iconostases is unique; their interiors reflect the four-century history of the church.
