In the first compartment of the submarine are located the breech sections of six torpedo tubes, spare torpedoes, the provisions room, a storeroom, and reserve and trim tanks. In the second compartment — the first group of 60 batteries, and above them — the radio station and the acoustic compartment. The third contains two groups of batteries, above which are the living quarters and the officers' mess. The fourth compartment is allocated to the central post; here are the main command post, a compensating (equalizing) tank, and a quick-dive tank. The fifth houses the fourth group of batteries, surrounded by oil tanks; above this group are the petty officers' quarters and a second blower for surfacing. The sixth compartment is the diesel-engine room. It also contains the disengaging clutches of the propeller shafts, lubricating oil tanks, some auxiliary machinery, and a special access hatch for the engine crew. In the seventh, aft compartment, are the main electric motors, the breech sections of two stern torpedo tubes, and the crew's hanging bunks.
