Exhibition of the Penza Local History Museum
About exhibition
Permanent exhibitions tell about the region's paleontological and geological past, its present-day nature and the diversity of its wildlife, the archaeological heritage of the Sura River valley and the history of Penza's founding, the military feats of its people through the ages, and outstanding figures who are a source of pride not only for the Penza Region but for the whole country. Visitors to the museum will see many authentic exhibits: a composite mammoth skeleton, a cast of the jaw of one of the largest marine reptiles, and taxidermy of the region's largest modern predators – the lynx, the wolf, and the brown bear. Models, engravings, and photographic materials tell the story of the evolution of the urban environment from the old wooden fortress to modern development. The exhibition complexes recreate the interiors of noble and merchant mansions. The Soviet period is extensively represented by documents and personal belongings of Penza residents. Special attention is given to museum items that tell of locals' participation in the battles of the 19th and 20th centuries and in contemporary military actions.
