Exhibition 'The Chamber of Archbishop Euthymius II in the Archbishop's Court of the Novgorod Kremlin'
About exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to a unique monument of civil architecture executed in the Gothic style, the design and history of which were significantly clarified during recent architectural and archaeological research and restoration work in 2006–2012. The Chamber, erected by Saint Euthymius in 1433, is the earliest of the surviving buildings of the Archbishop's Court — the ancient, and possibly original, residence of Novgorod's hierarchs. The displayed materials include icons depicting the glorified hierarchs; precious liturgical, prayer and household items, some of which once belonged to Novgorod's bishops; liturgical episcopal vestments; and birch‑bark letters that make it possible to trace the main stages in the history of the see, local veneration, and the pan‑Russian recognition of Novgorod's hierarchs. The exhibition also includes archaeological finds recovered during investigations of the Archbishop's Court and the Chamber of Archbishop Euthymius II.
