Exhibition "Domestic Visual Art of the 20th Century"
About exhibition
The permanent exhibition "Domestic Visual Art of the 20th Century" from the collections of the Belgorod State Art Museum (BGKhM) reopens in an updated form after a one-year hiatus. The reinstallation of this period was prompted by the fact that the museum's holdings were enriched with a large number of new and interesting works, including pieces from the 20th century. The new exhibition is divided chronologically into two major periods: the first and second halves of the 20th century. Visitors will be able to see 150 works of painting and sculpture from the museum collection. Among the authors are outstanding masters of the past century: A. Kuprin, A. Osmerkin, D. Nalbandyan, Yu. Pimenov, S. Gerasimov, A. Tsigal, D. Yakerson, and others. The second half of the century is arranged according to thematic principles that most vividly and convincingly reflect the lives of people in the Soviet and post-Soviet eras in thematic blocks: "History of Russia", "Severe Style", "Urban Everyday Life: Childhood, Youth, Adulthood", "Rural Life of the Country, National Colour", "Soviet Industry, the Country's Great Construction Projects, Working People." Easel sculpture in the exhibition will be displayed within chronological frameworks according to thematic and figurative-narrative principles, in accordance with the themes of the painting blocks. Although the 20th-century sculpture section is a separate department, together with the painting it forms a semantic and spatial unity.
