Exhibition of the Orenburg Governor's Museum
About exhibition
The Orenburg Governor's Historical and Local History Museum is one of the oldest in Russia. It is located in the historic part of the city, in the mansion of merchant A. I. Enikutsev — an architectural monument of the 19th century of federal significance. Its halls contain exhibitions that tell about the founding of the city and the governorate, the development of the region's economy and trade in the 18th–20th centuries, the military history of Orenburg, the development of education and science, and the region's culture. The natural history department presents the area's plant and animal life, as well as its mineral resources. The archaeology halls cover a vast historical period from the Paleolithic era to the Late Middle Ages. The most significant part of the collection consists of Scythian–Sarmatian antiquities discovered during excavations of world-famous kurgan necropolises.
